Al-Fiqh Al-Akbar – Lesson 19

Eûzubillahimineşşeytânîrracîm. Bismillahirrahmanirrahim. Elhamdulillahi Rabb’il âlemin. Vessâletü vessalâmû âlâ Rasulûna Muhammedin ve âlâ âlihi ve sahbihî ecmaîn. Most valuable and revered listeners, we continue to give discovery notes of Al-Fiqh Al-Akbar. If the servant wants to do charity work, then Allah Ta’ala creates for him power to do charity work. If he wants to do evil thing, then he uses the power given to him by Allah Ta’ala in evil deeds. Allah creates in the servant the power to do good deeds. Almighty Allah gives strength to the servant to do good but does not take it away when the servant wants to do evil deeds. In short, Allah gave the people strength to do good things. That strength is inseparable from the people. Almighty Lord granted this strength to the people for them to do good things, earn the test, and be the object of His kindness, generosity, and virtue. Yet those people use that strength for evil deeds. For he uses it for evil, what he earned is created for him as he earns evil.  This kind of people are listening to the truths by denying them. “Pilgrimage to this House is an obligation by Allah upon whoever is able among the people,” 97th verse of Surah Ali ’Imran. Look, there is a strength, and ability that is mentioned here. Abu Hanifa (rahmatullahi alayh) says, “With the strength the servant can do good or bad things alike.” As a matter of fact, the strength, the power, the intellect, and freedom were given for them to do good deeds and pass the test. Yet the servant uses that for misdeeds. The returns of the earnings of the people are created and given to them for this is a universe of test. The believer has obligation to believe but even though his strength is enough, he does not believe, chooses disbelief. Friends, that disbeliever has lost by using that strength on disbelief by his free will rather than using that strength on belief.

(Dakika: 4:54)

Look, the owner of blasphemy, in other words the disbeliever, could afford having iman (faith), but what did he do? He did not use his strength arbitrarily on iman (faith) but used it on blasphemy therefore earned blasphemy by losing his iman (faith). Then he earned blasphemy himself, and turned himself into a man of blasphemy. He denied where he should have believed.

There are works that are not inclusive of the power of the mortal but the work that is impossible has never been offered to anyone in Islam. Valuable friends, another one of the points which is one of the scholarly wisdoms about iman (faith) by which Al-Imam Al-Azam lighted the path for the world is that the prophets are innocent. All prophets are infallibles of all sins, whether major or minor. They are protected from things like disbelief and distasteful works. The prophets have attributes like trustworthiness (siddiq), trust (amanah), intelligence (fatanat), conveying (tabligh), and sekuret. Another of these is the attribute of innocence (ismah). In short, the prophets are innocent. The prophets have been protected from disbelief, and distasteful works, and committing sins. The prophets cannot even commit major or minor sins. Now, as for Adam Alayhissalam, he was not a prophet in the moment he ate from that forbidden tree in Paradise. Prophet Adam was not a prophet back then. Friends, the past of the prophets is Prophet Adam, and their future is Prophet Muhammad Mustafa, sallā Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam. Adam is a prophet. However, his prophethood was revealed after he got out from the Paradise and sent to the earth. It is not permissible to say, “Adam is not a prophet.” If someone says, “He is not a prophet,” then this is also blasphemy.

Now, 124,000 or 224,000. Friends, we should not limit the number of prophets by such numbers. This is because only Almighty Lord knows the number of prophets. We acknowledge and affirm all of the messengers of Allah howsoever many there may be. Now, the prophets do not do things like murdering, or other sins.

Moreover, Ibn Abbas replied to the man who asked in this matter by saying to him, “The number is closer to seven-hundred than seven.” He was then asked, “How many major sins are there? Is it seven?” Now, some people say there are seven major sins. These are the fundamental sins. However, Ibn Abbas replied, “The number is closer to seven-hundred than seven.” On the other hand, Ibn Sirin said, “The works that Allah Ta’ala has forbidden are the major sins.”

(Dakika: 9:48)

You can look for the 31st verse of Surah Al-Nisa to see what Almighty Lord said about this, “ʾin tajtanibū kabāʾira mā tunhawna ʿanhu nukaffir ʿankum sayyiʾātikum” – “If you avoid the major sins that you are forbidden, We will absolve you of your misdeeds.” Imam al-Hassan and Sa’īd bin Jubayr, along with al-Dahhak and others say this, “In Al-Qur’an Al-Karim, doing the actions which are close to frightening or threatening are major sins.” This is the truest opinion, they have said. “In Al-Qur’an Al-Karim, doing the actions which are close to frightening or threatening are major sins.” This is the truest opinion, they have said.

The act of abandoning fard and wājib (obligatory) duties even for once is a major sin, and moreover, doing actions that are haram (forbidden) is also amongst the biggest of major sins. It is not permissible to abandon any obligatory religious duty (fard). Whichever obligatory religious duty (fard) you are leaving, you are committing the biggest sin. Those who do not fulfil the commands of Allah are committing the biggest sin. Those who head for haram (forbidden) actions and commit them too are committing the biggest of the sins. The act of abandoning fard and wājib (obligatory) duties, even for once, is a major sin, and moreover, doing an action that is haram (forbidden) is a major sin. The act of abandoning the sunnah by reason of laziness, even for once, is a minor sin. You see, that is also sin. If you leave the obligatory religious duties  (fard) that means you are committing the biggest sin. If you get something illegally you are committing the biggest sin. However, if you abandon the sunnah, even for once, you are also committing a sin. You are committing a sin in the degree of sunnah. You see, performing the actions that are abominable or insisting on abandoning the sunnah, and insisting on an abominable action is also a major sin. This is because the abominable actions cumulative. Then when they grow, they attain the rank of major sin. The major sins are already attaining the rank of major forbidden (haram) actions. The following Hadith-i Sharif we will mention resides in the Musnad [Hadith Collection] of Ahmad ibn Hanbal. There is a report that says about the one hundred and four thousand prophets, “Three hundred and thirteen of them are rasul (apostle, messenger). He says, “Three hundred and thirteen of them are rasul (apostle, messenger). First of them is Adam Alayhissalam, and the last of them is Prophet Muhammad Mustafa, sallā Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam. The 164th verse of Surah Al-Nisa, “Some Messengers We have told you [their stories].” Almighty Allah informed us about some of the prophets. “And some other Messengers We did not tell you about,” He says. Now, the following Qur’anic verse is the 78th verse of Surah Sāffāt, İşte bu ayet-i kerime Sâffât Suresi’nin 78. ayet-i kerimesidir ki. “Ve le kad erselnâ rusûlen min gâblike min hüm men kasasnâ âleyke ve min hüm men lem tagsûs aleyk“ İşte Cenab-ı Hakk bu ayet-i kerimede; bir kıssaları anlatılan peygamberler var. Anlatılmayan nice peygamberlerin olduğu da anlaşılmaktadır. “Küllün âmene billahi ve melâiketihi ve kütübihî ve rusulih“ “Hepsi Allah’a, meleklerine, kitaplarına ve peygamberlerine imân ettiler” (Bakara Suresi 286. ayet). Kim? Bütün peygamberler.

(Dakika: 14:59)

They are all believers, and Muslims, this is for all prophets. Some prophets have committed misdoings however these are not related with major or minor sins. They are unimportant lapses that are not worth seeing. These are trivial lapses that are unnoticeable. Some of the prophets have had some misdeeds and mistakes. An example would be the Adam Alayhissalam eating from that tree in the Paradise. “wa-lā taqrabā hādhihi sh-shajarata” – “Do not approach this tree,” commanded Almighty Lord in the 35th verse of Surah Al-Baqarah. He thought the species of that tree were not referred so he ate from another tree but not that specific one. Look, this is important so please pay attention. He thought the species of that tree were not referred so he ate from another tree but not that specific one. There is no intendment here, there is assumption, oblivion, and delusion. He did not eat from that tree but the species of it. We clearly see here that the prophet said Adam Alayhissalam did not eat from that tree intentionally but forgot about it and thought that a particular tree was mentioned. Then he assumed that the other trees of that species were free to eat so he ate from not the particular tree but another tree of the same species. There is an assumption here. He forgets the incident or does not eat from the tree for it is forbidden.

This is a Hadith-i Sharif, “I swear to All-Powerful Allah that had you not committed sins, Allah Ta’ala would have created a society that would have committed sins. Thereafter this society would commit sins, and then asked forgiveness from Allah (they would repent), and Allah would have granted them pardon.”

Friends, it is necessary to understand this in the correct way. The mankind is mortal. The humans who have failure, ignorance and inattention are not devoid of sins, they may have sins. We should understand the above hadith in this meaning. He also says that Almighty Lord would pardon the sinners who believe and repent. The faithful should carry on with good deeds by repenting. There have been some opposition to this from some of the sufists and the kalamists. This Hadith-i Sharif was reported by Sahih Muslim, “Indeed my heart is beset by some desires of the world, and I repent one hundred times a day to Allah Ta’ala.” This Hadith-i Sharif was narrated by Sahih Muslim. Moreover friends, this is what Fakhr al-Din al-Razi says, “Know that the letter “ġayn” clouds the heart and veils a part of it. That is similar to a slim cloud.” Now, we should think for a brief moment. For he announced the sins, disasters, and disputes that will transpire amongst the Ummah, Prophet Muhammad feels a curtain and pain in his heart when he remembers those, therefore he would repent for his Ummah.

(Dakika: 20:00)

Prophet Muhammad would pass from one state to a higher state. Prophet Muhammad was always in the state of ascending. That is what his repentance was for. In other words, he used to repent for he thought that state is the most exalted state. The following word of Almighty Lord explains that, “wa-la-l-ʾākhiratu khayrun laka mina l-ʾūlā” – “Indeed the Hereafter is better for you than the first (life).” This is the 4th verse of Surah Al-Duhaa.

The third thing is that the letter “ġayn” is only the state of spiritual inebriation in the path to affection to Allah. In other words, they are in a state of inebriation with affection to Allah. Those people had drunk the wine of love. They have become drunk for they miss Almighty Allah so much. To convey the meaning better to the public; they are in love with Al-Haqq, they are people of affection. They are Allah’s beloved servants who love Allah Ta’ala. Their omens are strictly bound to the Islamic laws of Muhammad. They do not oppose to any order of the religion, which is Islam.

“There is such an intimate time between me and Allah that none of the archangels have the strength to stand alongside me.” Now the transliteration for this is, “lime Allahi saatün lâ yesseunî fihim melekün mugarrabûn.” That Hadith-i Sharif was reported.

Now, such positions are called “the position of jam‘ al-jam’“. Friends, the followers of Tasawwuf give utterance to these. “Knowledge and faith are the jewel and endowment of deed.” “Knowledge and faith are the jewel and excellence of deed.” The excellence in faith is your worshipping to Allah Ta’ala as if you are seeing Him, even though you cannot see. This is because Allah always sees you. He knew you in the state of non-existence, prior to you became existent. He sees you in the state of a being after creating you. He sees all things, and knows. He always sees, always knows. Your memory should not hold anyone other than Allah. You should bound your heart to Allah so firmly that your memory should become completely bound to Allah Ta’ala. Prophet Muhammad used to repent to Allah whenever there came another thought into his heart other than Allah. Likewise, Eb’ul-Hasan el-Bekrî Arif İbn-il-Fânz who were considered the teacher of the teachers have also pointed to the same meaning. That is the misinterpretation of who follow the apparent meaning. The following is another aspect of it. The heart is not void of desires of the world, thoughts of lust, or variety of inclinations and desires. For that reason, one must always be in repentance to Almighty Allah. The repentance of Prophet Muhammad was due to considering the end results of the worships or fear of being insufficient in thanking in the face of the blessings.

(Dakika: 25:00)

The following remark of Râbiyat’ül Adeviyye is also in this kind: “Our repentance is in need of many repentances.” You see friends, it seems true and real repentance is what is pointed at here. Qadi Abu Zayd mentioned in his book, Usul Al-Fiqh, the wajib, mustahabb, mubah, and lapses of Prophet Muhammad are done knowingly. Moreover, we do not pay attention to the actions that occur involuntarily like it is with the people who are asleep or wrong. “wa-ʿaṣā ʾādamu rabbahū fa-ghawā” – “Adam disobeyed his Lord, and went amiss.” Friends, this is the 121st verse of Surah Ta Ha. Friends, this lapse of Adam Alayhissalam was before his prophethood. Just like we remember from our previous lessons. There has never been a similar incident after his prophethood. “thumma jtabāhu rabbuhū fa-tāba ʿalayhi wa-hadā” – “So He accepted his repentance and gave (him) guidance.” This is, again, the 122nd verse of Surah Ta Ha. The group of  Hasviyah is also opposing. They said, “They may commit sins intentionally, too.” Yet the prophets have never committed sins. That group is out of the Ahl al-Sunnah. The Hasviyah also said, “The prophets committing minor sins intentionally is permissible according to the public.” They say, “minor sins” which refers to lapses, so what is mentioned here is lapses which are smaller than minor sins. These are not permissible according to al-Jubba’i and those who follow him. The prophets committing minor sins by mistake is unanimously permissible. Again, we are talking about small things. These are trivial lapses. We are explaining the point of view which Al-Imam Al-Azam put forth by other opinions. This is the acceptable opinion which Al-Imam Al-Azam put forth regarding the prophets and it is based on authentic proofs. There is no evidence regarding that it is not possible for the prophets to commit major sins prior to revelation. The Mu’tazila is opposed to that. The Shias did not consider permissible for the prophets to commit major or minor sins prior or after their prophethood. According to the people of Ahl al-Sunnah, the grand and preferred view is that the prophets are only protected from major sins, and they may have small sins such as trivial lapses which do not affect anyone in any way. However, they also said such mistakes could occur by means of forgetting and mistaking, which is called trivial lapses.

(Dakika: 30:00)

Again, the prophets do not commit sins whether major or minor. There may be lapses but these are substantial. These are the minor sins which are not visible. The attribute Ismah is a blessing given by Allah Ta’ala to the prophets. In short, the prophets are under protection, they cannot commit sins. Prophet Muhammad, sallā Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam, is indeed the greatest prophet and the Messenger of Allah. His apostle, servant, and the one He chose, in other words, His Mustafa. Prophet Muhammad is Mustafa, which means the chosen. The believers whether they are women or men has to recognize Prophet Muhammad well. Prophet Muhammad, sallā Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam, is the apostle and messenger of Allah Ta’ala, therefore the sharia he brought have abrogated the previous religions. In other words, the authority of the previous sharia laws was removed by the sharia law of Muhammad. It abrogated them. The sharia law of Muhammad is the abrogator, the previous sharia laws are what is abrogated. In other words, their authority was removed. Prophet Muhammad, sallā Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam, said this in a Hadith-i Sharif, “La tudruni kema etratil nasara İsa,” – “Do not praise me like the Christians are praising Isa Alayhissalam. Say, ‘He is the servant and messenger of Allah.’.” Prophet Muhammad is the greatest servant of Allah; and the greatest prophet. That Hadith-i Sharif was reported by our valuable muhaddiths such as Ahmad ibn Hanbal and Muhammad al-Bukhari (Sahih Bukhari). We have many âlims, may Allah bestow rahmat upon all of them, may He forgive them. May He have mercy upon them. May their gardens fill with splendorous lights. Let’s see what Almighty Lord commands in the 52nd verse of Surah al-Hajj, “wa-mā ʾarsalnā min qablika min rasūlin wa-lā nabiyyin ʾillā ʾidhā tamannā ʾalqā sh-shayṭānu fī ʾumniyyatihī” – “And We did not send before you any messenger or prophet except that when he spoke [or recited], Satan threw into it [some misunderstanding].” You see that the prophets are also protected from the Satan. They have been protected so that nothing else gets mixed up in their sharia laws. Prophet Muhammad Mustafa, sallā Allāhu Ta’ala, sallā Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam. “Muhammad is not the father of any of your men, but he is a messenger of Allah and the last of the prophets.” This is the 40th verse of Surah Al-Azhāb whose transliteration is, “mā kāna muḥammadun ʾabā ʾaḥadin min rijālikum wa-lākin rasūla llāhi wa-khātama n-nabiyyīna.” That is what our Lord commanded. In the night of al-Isrā, Allah Ta’ala commanded him this, “I have rendered you the first in terms of creation, and the last in terms of revelation.” This is important. The first of the prophets to be created is Prophet Muhammad, and the last sent prophet was also Prophet Muhammad. The hadith which comes to this meaning was reported by Bezhar on the authority of Abu Huraira.

(Dakika: 34:57)

Al-Razi says this regarding the subject, “The truth is that Prophet Muhammad, sallā Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam, was not subjected upon any other prophets sharia law prior to his prophethood.” This is the opinion which was preferred by the researcher ones amongst the Hanafi Âlims. This is because Prophet Muhammad was never amongst the ummah of any apostle. You see, Prophet Muhammad is not amongst the ummah of any messenger. This is because the universal, and the greatest prophet is Prophet Muhammad. Moreover, he was in the position of prophet before he became a messenger. This is because the first created amongst the prophets is Prophet Muhammad. However, he was in the position of prophet before he became a messenger, too. The reason for this is that the first created prophet is Muhammad. He was also the last sent prophet. He used to do deeds in the truest path which was revealed to him in this process of being a prophet by secret revelation and true discoveries from the sharia laws of Abraham Alayhissalam and other prophets. “When Adam was between the water and the mud,” he is talking about Adam Alayhissalam, this is important. “When Adam was in a state between water and mud,” he says, “I was a Prophet.” Who says that? That would be Prophet Muhammad. He says that he was a prophet prior to Adam’s creation. For the first created one is Prophet Muhammad. That is the light of Muhammad. The Pen, al-Lawh al-Mahfuz (The Sacred Tablet), and the mind are all created from the light of Prophet Muhammad. Prophet Muhammad istivâ, he was chosen and he was rendered Mustafa, which means “the selected”.  You should not forget about this. “When Adam was in a state between water and mud, I was a Prophet” he says. The Hadith-i Sharif signifies that he was attributed with the attribute of prophet in the realm of souls before this shadow realm was created. Prophet Muhammad was a prophet in the realm of souls, before other prophets were created. For that reason, this attribute is an attribute that is special for Prophet Muhammad. It is special to Prophet Muhammad. This is because many attributes which are not given to the other prophets, and ranks, were given to Prophet Muhammad. Prophet Muhammad has never committed a sin whether minor or major. Who? Prophet Muhammad. Prophet Muhammad Mustafa, sallā Allāhu Ta’ala, sallā Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam, has never worshipped idols. He never assigned partners to Allah Ta’ala, not even for a second. He has never committed a sin whether minor or major. Al-Imam Al-Azam had put this in the basics of Islam. This was specially about Prophet Muhammad. After the whole of Al-Qur’an Al-Karim was discovered, the entire sunnah, along with ijma, qiyas, meaning after the primary and auxiliary proofs of Islam were reviewed Al-Imam Al-Azam had put this in his Al-Fiqh Al-Akbar. Moreover, recognizing Prophet Muhammad is a fundamental in the basics of Islam. It is amongst the basics of iman. “ʿafā llāhu ʿanka li-ma ʾadhinta lahum” – “Allah has forgiven you; why did you permit them?” This is the 43rd verse of Surah Al-Tawbah. “mā kāna li-nabiyyin ʾan yakūna lahū ʾasrā ḥattā yuthkhina fī l-ʾarḍi” – “It is not fit for a prophet that he should take captives (and get ransom for them) until he has thoroughly subdued the land.” This is the 67th verse of Surah Al-Anfal.

(Dakika: 39:59)

The verses were attributed to the meaning “abandoning the better” in relation with the highest rank they attained. There are some moments in which the acceptable might get ahead of what is more acceptable. However, the acceptable thing; the better thing may get ahead of much better. You see, if such a situation has ever occurred in Prophet Muhammad, that has nothing to do with sins. Again, Prophet Muhammad Mustafa, sallā Allāhu Ta’ala ʿalayhi wa-sallam, said that most virtuous of people after the prophets is Abū Bakr as-Ṣiddīq, Radeyallāhu ′Anhu, then comes Umar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb, then Alī ibn Abu Talib, Radeyallāhu ′Anhum. Prophet Muhammad is the superior in rank amongst the all prophets in the most honourable creatures. Moreover, the most virtuous individuals after the prophets are Abū Bakr as-Ṣiddīq, Umar, Uthman and Alī, Radeyallāhu ′Anhum. They are the most virtuous of the human realm. They are the foremost after the prophets. Abū Bakr, Umar, Uthman, Alī, Radeyallāhu ′Anhum wa ardahum ajmain. This here is the creed and opinion of Ahl al-Sunnah regarding the topic. It is mentioned in Sharh al-Maqasid that the grand âlims hold the following opinion: Amongst the prophets four are in the group of the living. They are Khidr and Ilyas who lives on the earth. Isa and Idris who lives in the heavens. Look, there is this opinion that reside in Sharh al-Maqasid which belongs to the grand âlims. It is mentioned that there is such opinion. It says, four amongst the prophets are amongst the living. These are Khidr and Ilyas, who lives on the earth, and Isa and Idris who lives in the heavens, they say. There are narrations which say that Idris Alayhissalam lives in the fourth layer of the heavens, and Isa lives in the third or second layer of the heavens. The name of Abū Bakr was Abd-al-Kaʻba in the Jahiliyyah Period. The Rasulullah, sallā Allāhu Ta’ala ʿalayhi wa-sallam, named him “Abdullah”.

Yes friends, the name of Abū Bakr’s father is Abu Quhafa ‚Uthman ibn ‚Amir ibn Amir ibn Kaab ibn Saad ibn Taym ibn Murra ibn Kaab ibn Luayy ibn Ghalib ibn Fihr al- Quraishi, as-Ṣiddīq, at-Taymi. He was given the name as-Ṣiddīq for he was truthful, and for he deeply acknowledged Al-Haqq, and for his faith and affirmation was firm. He is the utmost superior Awliya of all time. This is important. He is the utmost superior Awliya and Walis of all time.

There has been unanimity in that Abu Bakr is the most superior of walis. In other words, all âlims have formed an alliance in this matter. It is said that there is unanimity in this. What did the Rafidhis (rejectionists) do here? They rejected, of course.

(Dakika: 45:01)

However, there is ijma and ummah against the Rafidhis. The Rafidhis have no religious proofs to support their allegations. Prophet Muhammad, sallā Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam, he put him forth to make him lead the namâz instead of himself. It was Abū Bakr who became an imam in our Prophet’s healthy times. He served as imam by our Prophet’s offer. When Abū Bakr wanted to appoint someone else, our Prophet said, “Never! Neither Allah, nor the Prophet, nor the Ummah will be pleased with this.” In short, Abū Bakr became an imam in our Prophet’s healthy times and then became a caliph, these are not random occurrences. These are properly occurred things. For that reason, no one should attempt to praise one amongst the companions and discard the other. The whole of Ashab-i Gûzin is similar to the splendorous stars in the sky. Four of them are The Rashidun Caliphate. They are Abū Bakr, Umar, Uthman and Alī. These four are foremost amongst the most splendorous ones. After them comes the ten with glad tidings of paradise in which they also take place. There are many more, too. For that reason, the Ashab-i Gûzin is not to be slandered. The disputes amid them are submitted to Allah and His Apostle. This is because no one can judge the companions. No one should think badly of Ashab-i Gûzin or speak ill of them. You cannot slander the companions because the Yazid did cursedness. The sin belongs to the sinner. Whoever does the deeds of Yazid is the Yazid. What was Yazid doing? Yazid was not performing namâz. Yazid used to drink wine. Yazid used to play tanbur. If Yazid used to do fornication, and was an enemy of Ahlul Bayt then whoever does these things are the Yazid himself. There is no point in cursing Yazid by doing his deeds and acting like him. The man does what Yazid used to do then curses him. Now, you should not do what Yazid did but do what Alī did. Then you are a Muslim. Did Hassan or Husayn used to drink wine or raki? Did they abandon the namâz even for once in their lifetime? Do not fool yourself. Alī, Hassan and Husayn are good Muslims who know the entire Al-Qur’an Al-Karim. They are the true heroes who are in the path of Muhammad, and the companions, and the Ahlul Bayt. The people should know the Qur’an, Sunnah, and Ijma well. You should act with mujtahid âlims, and ijma of ummah. You come here helplessly on your own, and you do not even properly know a single word from the Qur’an but then you slander Ashab-i Gûzin, you slander Abū Bakr. You are slandering Umar and Uthman. Those who slander Alī, Hassan and Husayn, your tongues will be rotten. They should know their place. “Radeyallāhu ′Anhum wa ardahum ajmain.” – “May Allah be pleased with all of the companions.” You should recite this often. “Radeyallāhu ′Anhum wa ardahum ajmain. You should keep reciting that. You should continue reciting these prayers for both the males and famales amongst the companions. You should submit the disputes and ijtihad related situations among them to Allah. You do not have the authority to judge them.

(Dakika: 50:07)

For that reason, you should learn the Battle of Karbala well. The Battle of Karbala is protecting the Qur’an and the truth. It is the name for standing against the tyrants. It is not the name for naming “permissible” what is forbidden. It is also wrong to say “I am celebrating Karbala,” after doing what Yazid did. You should give up the actions of Yazid, and understand Al-Qur’an Al-Karim correctly. Today some people are both celebrating the Karbala incident and denying the Qur’an. This has nothing to do with Battle of Karbala, Hassan or Husayn. Hassan and Husayn are the greatest heroes of the world. They are the most valuable Muslims, and they are Ahlul Bayt. They are individuals following the way of Allah and His Messenger. Friends, the divine values they are subjected to are the Islam itself. All of the verses of Al-Qur’an Al-Karim, and the whole of the authentic sunnah. You should bound to the divine values they were bound to. You should not imitate the wrong. You should look towards acting together with the Prophet, Ahlul Bayt, Ahl al-Sunnah, and Ahlus-Sunnah wa’l-Jama’ah by ijma of ummah. You should not be mistaken. Do not let them deviate you. The ansar were all subjected to Abū Bakr. It was only Sa’d ibn Ubadah who did not. This is important. Today, there is this report in Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim: When Prophet Muhammad became sick, he asked to call Abū Bakr and his brother so that he can write a document.” This is what our Prophet said, “Call Abū Bakr and his son.”

Again, our Prophet’s wife says this to the mother of the realm of Islam.

“For I fear someone else who is desirous (of succeeding him) might say that he has better claim to it than Abū Bakr.” Who says all these? Prophet Muhammad says, alayhissalatu wassalam. “Allah and the Muslims do not substantiate the claim of anyone but of Abū Bakr.” The books who report this are Sahih Muslim and Sahih Bukhari and this hadith is authentic. This is important. You should pay attention to this part. “If someone else might say, “I have better claim to it,” says our Prophet. “I fear someone might say this. Whereas Allah and the Muslims will not accept anyone other than Abū Bakr. You can open the Sahih Muslim or Sahih Bukhari look for this Hadith-i Sharif. For one cannot be Muslim by denying the hadiths and then denying the Qur’an. The man is slandering Abū Bakr. Then thinks that he is following the path of Alī. Abū Bakr and Alī are brothers of faith. There is no grudge between them. There is no enmity. Moreover, Alī was the chief judge in the Caliphate of Umar. Who gains benefit from showing them as enemies and dividing the Muslims? That is what the enemy wants. You are acting under the command of the enemy. The enemy had spit into your mouth, you’re chewing on it. This Muslim nation will not allow anyone to speak ill of Alī, or Wali, or Hassan, or Husayn, or Abū Bakr, or Umar, or Uthman. These people are not to be blamed. The same goes for the entire Ashab-i Gûzin. The Yazid is cursed. He is cursed.

(Dakika: 54:59)

Yazid is cruel, tyrant. Yazid is traitor. Do not do what he did. I am repeating in virtue of importance of the subject. Yazid did not used to perform namâz. Yazid used to commit fornication. Yazid used to play the tambur. Yazid used to drink wine and raki. Yazid wanted to kill the Ahlul Bayt using his throne and position.  This as because he ruled the state. He had captured the position of the caliphate by means of Umayyad Sultanate. What did he do to protect his sultanate? He inflicted this cruelty upon Ahlul Bayt. He did this treason. No Muslim prays for Yazid. No Muslim does that. You do not have right to call any Muslim “Yazid” anyway. The moment you call Muslims “Yazid” you are on the way of Jewish ibn Sabaʾ. You should not forget this. The sins of Yazid belong to Yazid. The Muslims do not like Yazid. However, the Muslims love Hassan, Husayn, and Ahlul Bayt (rahmatullahi alayh wa alayhim ajmain) more than their lives. Do you have anything to say? You should back down from this mistake. The case was between the Umayyads and Alevis but now its between Sunnis and Alevis. The enemy did that. What does Sunnis have to do with the Umayyads? The enemy puts forth this thing about the Alevis and Umayyads. After that they replaced the Umayyads with Sunnis and said they are enemies in order to divide the Muslims. Do you know the meaning of the word “Sunni”? Sunni is the name for the Muslims who follow the Qur’an and the sunnah in the way of Prophet Muhammad and his companions. Sunnah, is the laws of Allah. Prophet Muhammad’s words, actions, and statements are the sunnah. For that reason, do not forget the sunnah has a lot of meanings which may be general or exclusive. Alī is on the path of the Qur’an and the sunnah. Alī is bound to the sunnah, and the Prophet. Alī is a Sunni. Hassan and Husayn are also Sunni. If loving Alī makes you an Alevi then each and every Muslim is Alevi. Every Muslim loves Ali, radeyallāhu ′anhu. The Muslims love Hassan and Husayn. They love Ahlul Bayt. If loving Alī is Alevism then every Muslim loves Alī. They love Hassan and Husayn, too. O, the men who call themselves Muslims! Do not burn your homes, do not bomb your own armies, do not bombard your own armies! The one who wants to drive a wedge between Muslims is the enemy. You should not be deceived by such games. You should unite in the truth. The source of the truth is obvious. Why do you think they put Al-Imam Al-Azam in chains and then killed him? That was because he sided with Ahlul Bayt. What is the reason that Ja’far al-Mansur put Al-Imam Al-Azam in prison and killed him by poison? That was because Al-Imam Al-Azam sided with Ahlul Bayt, because he sided with Alī. There are rascals who slander Al-Imam Al-Azam in this day, too. Al-Imam Al-Azam had gave his life in the way of the Qur’an, Islam, and Ahlul Bayt, and Allah. The man comes and shows enmity towards Al-Imam Al-Azam. There is no problem between Al-Imam Al-Azam, Ja’far al-Sadiq, Muhammad al-Baqir and the imams of Ahlul Bayt. The problem is amid the ignorant disbelievers.  You should not divide the Muslims. Do not tear them apart. There is no such thing in the world as Alevism or Sunnism.

(Dakika: 1:00:00)

In those days there were the case of Umayyads and Alevism. The Umayyads had held the political authority. So, what about Alevism today? The Islamic movement within Alevism contained people who sided with Alī along with the people whom are used by the enemy in both sides, who are provoked by the enemy. The religion of Islam is neither the Umayyads nor Alevism. Hassan and Alī are also bound to the Ahlul Bayt, the Qur’an, the sunnah, Muhammad, and Islam. Islam is not in anyone’s monopoly. Islam is the law and order which Allah Ta’ala brought forth. It is the foundation and order that is found by Allah. It consists of divine laws. Alī knew that well, he was bound to it. Alī is one of His caliphs and one of the greatest heroes of earth. For that reason, the Muslims do not speak anyone to speak ill of Alī, Hassan, Husayn, and Ahlul Bayt or the companions. The sin belongs to the sinner. You can prove by the Qur’an whoever committed the sin. That is if you possess the power to judge. The man does not even know the meaning of Basmala yet he makes judgments without hesitation. Who gave such authority, and such chance to you?

Now, friends, after Abū Bakr we cannot deny the virtue of Umar. Following Abū Bakr the greatest of people is Umar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb. The following is his identity: Umar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb ibn Nufayl bin Abd al-Uzza ibn Rabah ibn Abd Allah ibn Kard ibn Dırah bin Adiy bin Ka’b ibn al-Quraishi al-Adawi. The most famous epithet of Umar was “ Al-Farooq”. Moreover, this means the one who distinguishes between the right and the wrong. You see, the following is an authentic report from our Prophet which says our Prophet said, “Innel hakka yecri ala lisani.” – “Indeed, Allah has put the truth upon the tongue of Umar.” This is important. This Hadith-i Sharif was reported in the Musnad (Hadith Collection) of Ahmad ibn Hanbal, and Ibn Majah. “Have you not seen those who claim that they have believed in what was revealed to you and what was revealed before you? They want to take their disputes to the Tāghūt.” This is the 60th verse of Surah An-Nisa.

You see friends, Umar is the second caliph who firmly embraced Allah’s religion Islam. Moreover, he has become a byword in the world. How do you think you can hide this inconcealable truth. He overpowered the supreme states of the world through his time as caliph which approximately lasted ten years. The Islam spread at breakneck speed. The justice revealed. What will you get by enmity towards Umar. There is a germy gum in your mouth which Jewish ibn Saba‘ spat. That divider and seperatist. You are chewing on it for you wish to divide the Muslims. Spit it out. That does not suit you. Since Adam Alayhissalam, no one ever had the honour to marry both daughters of any prophet.

(Dakika: 1:05:05)

The Ahl al-Sunnah loves Abū Bakr, Umar and Uthman. They love Alī more than their lives. This is important. This is just a sorting by basing it on religious proofs. This is the understanding of Islam, the âlims, and the ijma of ummah. Otherwise, there cannot be anyone who dislike Alī. Every Muslim loves him. It is our Prophet who ordered Abū Bakr to be the imam of the people. The one who fits for the position of imam is superior. These are Islamic, scholarly proofs. Abū Bakr being the first caliph is not some sort of coinsidence. That is due to our Prophet’s touch. Alī is the son-in-law of Prophet Muhammad. His cousin. He would have also point him to the caliphate. You see that he did not. He preferred Abū Bakr. However, Abū Bakr was chosen due to the alliance of the helper companions and the the muhajirs (emigrants). Now, do you say that the ansar (helpers) and the muhajirs (emigrants) were all mistaken?

Never! Never in ever! Did our Prophet make a mistake? The Rafidhis did not, the Mu’tazila, did not but the companions, the Prophet, whole ijma of ummah and the Muslim mujtahids did, you say? Think reasonably, this is not something possible. You should not oppose to Ahlus-Sunnah wa’l-Jama’ah. You should not distrupt the unity and peace amid the Islamic brotherhood. There is not anyone who dislike Alī. Everybody loves him. That is even if you say no. Alī is not yours. What do you have to do with Alī? Hassan and Husayn are not yours either. The Muslims love them more than their lives. The man tries to take them under his monopoly. Who are you; and who are Hassan and Husayn? They are invaluable individuals. They are Hassan and Husayn. Radeyallāhu ′Anhum wa ardahum ajmain. You are spilling haram from your mouth when talking about Alī or someone else. You should at first get away from polytheism, disbelief, haram, and sins. You should then come to the light of Al-Qur’an Al-Karim, and the enlightenment of Islam. Then you can start reciting with clean mouth. You will find honesty and the monotheistic faith within your heart.

Friends, together we should look for Islamic and scholarly proofs. We must act with science. Today, we are giving the discovery notes of Alī who gave his life on the way of Ahlul Bayt, and Al-Imam Al-Azam’s Al-Fiqh Al-Akbar. This is important. He wrote Al-Fiqh Al-Akbar by relying on scholarly evidence. The Rashidun are the four real caliphs. Al-Imam Al-Azam mentioned this in his Al-Fiqh Al-Akbar. The Rashidun Caliphs are eternally on the right path, just like they were in the past. They are everlasting by the truth. We love them all. You see, that is what Al-Imam Al-Azam says. Marwan committed crimes. Yazid committed crimes. Yet you can’t speak ill of Uthman for what they did. You can’t. You should abandon this heresy. The Rashidun Caliphs are true caliphs. They are the real caliphs. Now, the Rafidhis are opposed to this. The Kharijites are also opposed to this. They adjudge that Alī and those who follow him are disbelievers. Who? The Kharijites. The Kharijites tasted the sword of Alī in the Battle of Nahrawan. The ones who speak ill of Alī are only the Kharijites and they tasted the Sword of Allah. They got what they deserved.

(Dakika: 1:15:02)

There are Kharijites today who are few and far between. Who are they? You see, they are the ones who always shoot Muslims in the back. They are the ones who collaborate with the enemy. They help the imperialists against the armies of caliphate in the Arabian deserts. They are the Kharijites or modern age. Those who spoke ill of Alī are also the Kharijites. Alī massacred them in the Battle of Nahrawan. The Kharijites called Alī disbeliever. They called who follow him disbelievers, too. They came to Al-Imam Al-Azam with swords in order to kill him. Nonetheless, they tasted the Sword of Allah. O, the Kharijites of modern age! Beware! You should return from the ill road to Ahl al-Sunnah. You should abandon mistakes and come to the truth. You should see the 100th verse of Surah Al-Tawbah in which Almighty Lord praises the companions, muhajirs (emigrants), and the ansar (helpers). There are some who speak ill of the servants whom Allah praised. Listen to this verse. Let’s see what Almighty Lord says: “wa-s-sābiqūna l-ʾawwalūna mina l-muhājirīna wa-l-ʾanṣāri wa-lladhīna ttabaʿūhum bi-ʾiḥsānin raḍiya llāhu ʿanhum wa-raḍū ʿanhu” – “As for the first and foremost of the Emigrants (Muhājirīn) and the Supporters (Ansar) and those who followed them in goodness, Allah is pleased with them and they are pleased with Allah.” Now, this is a verse. O, Muslims! Allah Ta’ala says that He is pleased with Ashab-i Gûzin, the muhajirs (emigrants) and the ansar (helpers). You are going to speak ill of what Allah is pleased with, aren’t you? You will get struct; you will get punished. You will receive the punishment the Kharijites gone through. What happened to the Kharijites for they spoke ill of Alī? They were buckled by Allah’s wrath. “If you do not help the Prophet, then Allah will help him again, just like he did before. Remember when the polytheists of Mecca sent him forth. He was in a cave along with Abū Bakr.” You see, Abū Bakr is the friend of Prophet Muhammad in the Hegira and in the cave. He never opposed to him in his life or did not he say something against. He affirmed him with all his being. He was there for Prophet Muhammad along with his strength both morally and materially. How come people are fabricating lies and slurs for such valuable individuals like Alī and Abū Bakr who were trustworthy and honourable men. “That time Prophet Muhammad said this to his friend.” In other words, our Prophet was telling this to Abū Bakr when the enemy surrounded the door. “Do not grieve. Allah is surely with us.” – “lā taḥzan ʾinna llāha maʿanā said our beloved Prophet. This was the 40th verse of Surah Al-Tawbah.

Dearest friends, you should speak with Al-Qur’an Al-Karim. You should speak with the sunnah but do not speak by the mouth of the enemy. You should not chew on the gum of the enemy. If you are a Muslim you should speak with scholarly documents. You cannot speak in the name of the religion using fabricated stories which you did not delve into its source, you did not filter. You should not talk without documents; without holding the scholarly evidence in your hands. The mufassirs (glossators) unanimously agree in that it is Abū Bakr who was mentioned in the expression in the verse, “the friend of the Prophet”.

(Dakika: 1:20:01)

You see, all of the mufassirs (glossators) say that the person in this verse, the friend of Muhammad is Abū Bakr. Today, Almighty Lord mentions both our Prophet and Abū Bakr by this verse. Now, do you think you can oppose to Allah and the Prophet, and you will speak ill of Abū Bakr? Is that so? We do not let anyone speak ill of Alī, but we do not you slander Abū Bakr either. You should know this well.

Friends, the Muslims and the âlims of Ahl al-Sunnah are presented with scholarly proofs. We should at first look at the scholarly documents that our Mujtahids brought forth and read the basics (amantu) correctly. Then we should believe in the truth. There cannot be true iman (faith) without proper faith. There cannot be real iman without there being the truth, knowledge, and science. You should grasp at the true science. You shall remember all companions with good memories. We remember the companions of Prophet Muhammad, sallā Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam, with good things. That is what Al-Imam Al-Azam said. Yes, let’s have a look. “Hayrul-kurûnî karnî,” Our Prophet says, “The best generation is the generation of my century.” You can now go and look into the Sahih Bukhari. This was reported in the Sahih Bukhari. “Izzazükre ashabi feemsikü,” – “You should hold your tongues when spoken about my companions.” There have been disputes amid the companions which are opinion-wise and scholarly. We do not possess the authority or the right to be a judge and say this is right or that is wrong. He says, “hold your tongue.” That is what our Prophet said. Now, do you have a scholarly authority or a licence equal to their level?

Moreover, let’s see what our Prophet says about the companions. “Ashabi kenni cüni bi eyihim iktedeytim ihdedeytüm,” – “My companions are like the stars. You will find guidance whichever you follow.”

You see, dear friends, this report was narrated from our Beloved Prophet. It is wrong to speak ill of the companions of our Prophet. Imam al-Shafi’i says, “Almighty Lord has cleaned our hands; therefore, we should not contaminate our tongues with that.” That is what he said when they asked him about the situation of the disputes in the period of the companions. Moreover, Al-Imam Al-Azam Abu Hanifa said this, “If it was not for Alī, we would not have known the life-stories of the Kharijites.” Al-Imam Al-Azam is one the ones who never spoke a word regarding the companions. He never let anyone speak ill of the companions, and he did not say something himself. Al-Imam Al-Azam only spoke with the verses, hadiths, and scholarly proofs. He is one of the greatest scholars of the world and is strictly bound to the lineage of Alī. Al-Imam Al-Azam’s father served Alī and received his good prayers. We do not cast out the some of them while we mention our imams. All of the Islamic scholars (âlims) are valuable. However, Al-Imam Al-Azam has written books. The two-thirds of the Muslims of the world have graduated from the Hanafi School since the last fourteen centuries. They came to this day by studying Islam well. The mujtahids of ours who were close to him came to this day by serving Islam. They studied well in the Islamic School. You should study, too. You should speak with science, speak using scholarly proofs. To speak in the name of the religion without verses, hadiths, comparisons, and documents… What is that? They are doing the greatest evil upon the religion and they do not even know. The religion is not your father’s toy. You shall know Al-Qur’an Al-Karim correctly, from a to z. You shall know the sunnah, the proofs, and the sources and then you shall act by science. This is not a random endeavour. May Almighty Allah unite the hearts of the realm of Islam, and the hearts of all Muslims. “The believers are brothers,” says Almighty Allah in Al-Qur’an Al-Karim. May Allah grant us in becoming truly brothers.
